        • Then, select Language Arts: Reading

8/19/2010 - Week 4

       There are two assignments for this Thursday: one assignment for reading and one for math.

  1. Reading Assignment
    • The reading assignment is as follows: Your first part of the reading assignment is to read the story "Their Eyes Were Watching God"    by clicking here -->   http://bit.ly/af78mX
    • This is the link to the whole book, but we are ONLY reading chapter one which goes from pages 3-11 and the pages are pretty short.
    • To get to the assignment part, go to GED connections (PBS Literacy), log in with your account, in the upper right hand corner under lessons and resources, click on GED connections, then click language arts and reading, then click on unit 3, and do activities 1-5 online. Be sure to save your answers. We are ONLY doing UNIT 3, activities 1-5.

**I would also like it if while you were reading, you write down any vocabulary words you do not know or understand in the story. I will ask you guys the meaning of some words in the story on Thursday. So be prepared.

If you have not completed these activities, you are behind and need to catch up ASAP.

What you need to complete within the next two weeks: Lesson 9-Commas; lesson 7-grammatically correct sentences; lesson 7-sentence and paragraph development


**Please make sure you complete all of the above writing activities. We will be working on building our five-paragraph essays over the next few weeks to prepare you for the actual GED writing test.

As you have read in Internet Activity 2, you will need to write an "expository" essay that is grammatically and structurally sound to pass the writing test. By completing the above activities and practicing your writing frequently, you are improving your chances of passing the writing part of the test.


As always, set up an appointment with me if you need help improving your writing.


Test taking tip of the week: Be prepared! Please don't make the mistake of waiting until the week of the test to make tutoring appointments for things you don't understand. Now is the time to get see me about things you do not understand-not the day before the test.
